Osteopathy is a form of drug-free, non-invasive manual therapy that focuses on total body health by treating and strengthening the musculo-skeletal framework, which includes the joints, muscles and spine. Its aim is to positively affect the body's nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. This therapy is a unique, holistic (whole body) approach to health care. Osteopaths do not simply concentrate on treating the problem area, but use manual techniques to balance all the systems of the body, to provide overall good health and well-being.
What is osteopathy?
Dr Andrew Taylor Still established the practice of osteopathy in the late 1800s in the United States of America, with the aim of using manual 'hands on' techniques to improve circulation and correct altered biomechanics, without the use of drugs. Osteopathy is about building health.
Osteopaths are not medics; we have extensive knowledge of human health but we are not necessarily only interested in you once you have been consumed by pathology. We diagnose but are not bound by definitive diagnosis in order to treat as we do not rely on pharmaceutical or surgical intervention in order to administer treatment, to poison or cut out the pathology.
The time to become familiar with osteopathy is not just after you have suffered a crisis such as an acute disc prolapse but to come and become educated in back mechanics so you can avoid such suffering. Likewise, understand why shouders become frozen and avoid this happening or why during the winter months we can become sad; what does stress really mean to us and our health, and how do we become more happy and content? Every tissue and electromagnetic field in the body is subject to osteopathic philosophy which is simple: ensure good profusion and drainage of tissue by blood lymph and your body has the optimal chance of staying healthy - structure, fluidity, health.
So, if you have concerns about your health, why something hurts or aches, come and ask us the question. We will assist you in understanding how your body works in relation to your environment and mind; we can help show you how to be and stay healthy for the long term.
